Halloween (1978)

 

Written and directed by John Carpenter, Halloween, has grown to be one of the most well known horror films in history and one of the highest grossing horror movies of all time. It has (to date) spawned 8 sequels, a remake, a sequel to the remake, another sequel on the way, and numerous documentaries.

The movie starts on October 31st, 1963 in Haddonfield, Illinois.  We watch through someone else’s point of view approaching a house and witnessing a girl and her boyfriend making out. They head upstairs to make love, after they are done the boyfriend leaves, and the person who’s been watching goes upstairs and stabs the naked woman to death. They backtrack and leave the house, and as the camera pans out we discover a little boy, holding a bloody butcher knife. This is 6 year old Michael Myers, he has just murdered his sister.

Michael was then committed into a mental hospital after the brutal murder of his. He remained there for 15 years under the care of Dr. Loomis. During those 15 years he never spoke.

Then on October 31, 1978, Michael escapes from the mental hospital, and returns to his home in Haddonfield where he stalks a young woman throughout the day. Later that night while she and her friend Annie babysit Michael stalks the two women. His doctor – Dr. Loomis goes on the hunt for Myers with Sheriff Brackett. Will they find Michael before he kills again?
